Some proposals come together after a year of planning. This one came together in a matter of weeks, and somehow that only made it more beautiful to witness.

A Last-Minute Trip, Months in the Making

Adrián had been holding onto this idea for months, waiting for the right window to bring Monett to Puerto Rico and ask her the question he'd been carrying with him. When a shift in her work schedule finally opened up a few days, he moved fast. Flights were booked, a villa was found, and within days we were coordinating a proposal that would come together almost entirely last minute, but with all the intention of something planned for a year.

Why Adrián Chose Casamerica in Cayey

He knew exactly what he wanted. Something private. Something with a view that would take her breath away before he even got the words out. We talked through a few options, a fortress wall in Old San Juan, a countryside hacienda, before Casamerica in Cayey (also known around the island as Casa América) confirmed availability and became the plan. Once I saw the property, I understood why. Perched high in the mountains, this luxury private villa is built almost entirely around its view, with a mirador terrace, glass railings, and a horizon of green ridgelines that seems to go on forever. It was Adrián's first choice from the very start, and it turned out to be exactly right.

White, Coral, and Yellow: Petals and Tulips

He was specific about the details too. Rose petals in white, coral, and yellow, never red, and a bouquet of tulips, because tulips are Monett's favorite flower and he wanted her to know he'd been paying attention. Kute Gifts & Flowers pulled it together beautifully, and I arrived ahead of the couple to scatter the petals across the mirador and tuck the bouquet out of sight until the right moment.

The plan for getting Monett there was simple on paper and quietly nerve wracking in practice, the way every good surprise is. Adrián guided her in through the garden on the left rather than the driveway, so the first thing she saw wasn't a parking area, it was the terrace opening up in front of her with the Cayey mountains spread out behind it. I was tucked out of view, watching them walk toward the overlook together, having no idea what was waiting.

He got down on one knee right there on the mirador, petals scattered around them, the mountains catching the late afternoon light. Monett's reaction was everything you hope for in this work, hands over her mouth, disbelief, then joy breaking through all at once. There is nothing quite like photographing that first unscripted moment. Nobody is posing. Nobody is thinking about the camera. It's just two people and the truth of how they feel about each other.

Engagement Portraits Around Casamerica

After the proposal, we wandered the rest of the property for portraits. Casamerica gave us so much to work with, a garden path wrapped in greenery, a wall of trailing vines that felt like something out of a dream, a reflecting pool terrace with the villa's red tile roofline behind them, and one more return to that mountain overlook as the light softened into gold. Every corner of this place photographs like it was designed for exactly this kind of moment, which, as a private luxury villa built for both weddings and celebrations like this one, it very much was.
