A Destination Wedding at the Condado Vanderbilt — San Juan, Puerto Rico
A three-chapter love story, finally home.
The first time I met Kamila, it wasn't over Zoom, but over coffee, and it ran long. The kind of conversation that moves from wedding logistics to wanderlust to family drama, to grief, tears and laughter and back again without any warning. By the time we said goodbye, I already knew this would be more than a client relationship.
Some time later, I flew to Las Vegas to photograph her and Brian for the first time: a desert engagement session at Calico Basin and under the neon glow of Fremont Street. Brian, whom I hadn't yet met, turned out to be exactly the kind of man I'd imagined: calm, kind, present, and completely lit up every time he looked at her.
Then came their pre-wedding adventure photoshoot in Colorado. A sunrise session at Lost Gulch Overlook in Boulder, their dogs in tow, and the kind of morning light that makes a photographer feel like she's exactly where she's supposed to be.
And then, on a Sunday in March, my trilogy with them came home to the Condado Vanderbilt Hotel in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
A Wedding at the Condado Vanderbilt Hotel, Salon Dorado
The Condado Vanderbilt is one of the most storied wedding venues in Puerto Rico. Built in 1919 and restored to its full grandeur, it carries the kind of history you feel the moment you walk through its arched corridors. The warm terracotta walls, the golden chandeliers, the long barrel-vaulted hallways that seem to go on forever: an environment that was made for moments that matter.
Kamila and Brian's wedding took place in the Salon Dorado, and if you've seen a wedding there before, you know what that room is capable of. But their day took it further than I'd ever seen.
Getting Ready at the Condado Vanderbilt
Coverage began early in the hotel suite, and from the first frame, the energy was warm and electric. Arquimides had Kamila looking absolutely radiant. Her off-the-shoulder gown by Xiomara Simó was everything: structured, romantic, and perfectly her.
On the other side of the hotel, Brian was getting ready with the quiet confidence that has always been his signature. A handsome man in a tuxedo who already knows exactly how lucky he is — and it showed in every frame.
First Look and Portraits at the Condado Vanderbilt
The first look with Brian happened in the hotel's glass-walled interior corridor, where tropical greenery presses against floor-to-ceiling windows and the Caribbean light filters through in the most generous way. He stood with his back to her, and when he turned — that was the moment. The kind of reaction that makes a photographer hold her breath and just let the camera do its job.
From there we moved through the hotel's most iconic spaces. The warm amber hallways with their repeating arches became the setting for portraits that felt cinematic without trying to be. I've photographed at the Condado Vanderbilt many times, and I will never get tired of what that light does to a couple in love. If you're planning a luxury wedding at the Condado Vanderbilt, know that these corridors alone are worth the venue.
The grand staircase. The double-height archways. The marble floors. Every corner of this building earns its reputation.
When clients want a first look and pre-ceremony portrait session on their Condado Vanderbilt wedding day, I try to stay indoors for the most part. The outdoor elements can be unforgiving in the early afternoon, and the last thing anyone wants is hair and makeup compromised before the event begins. I came to learn later that Arquimides did the job of an engineer on that hair and skin — it didn't budge even on the steamy dance floor — but it's always best not to risk it. I recommend saving the outdoor, ocean-view portraits for after the ceremony and family formals.
The Ceremony in Patio del Fauno
The ceremony space, designed by Tempus Events, was nothing short of extraordinary. Towering floral installations in deep fuchsia, wine, blush, and botanical green flanked the aisle on white pedestals. Snapdragons, garden roses, orchids, and wildflower-like greenery spilled across the floor in arrangements that felt more like a garden than a decoration. Gold chiavari chairs lined both sides. Sheer drapery softened the windows. Every element felt considered and alive. My jaw: dropped.
Brian waited at the altar with his best man, and the expression on his face when Kamila appeared at the back of the room, walked in by both her parents, is one I won't forget. Most grooms go still when they see their bride walking down the aisle, but Brian was fully present and emotional in the most beautiful way.
Their vows were funny, sincere, and spoke to the depth of a couple that has faced adversity, practiced patience, and loved with intention. It was genuinely inspiring to witness. Their first kiss was met with a burst of bubbles from the guests, and the two of them walked back down that floral aisle together as husband and wife.
Portraits on the Ocean Terrace
After the ceremony, we slipped outside to the Condado Vanderbilt's oceanfront terrace for couple portraits. The Atlantic was showing off: waves crashing dramatically against the rocks below the glass balcony, wind catching Kamila's veil, the whole scene feeling almost too cinematic to be real.
These are the frames that remind me why I love this venue. Nowhere else in Puerto Rico do you get that combination of historic elegance inside and raw ocean magic just steps away.
The Reception in the Salon Dorado
The Salon Dorado transformed for the reception into something that felt like walking into a garden at golden hour. Tempus Events filled the room with lush, overflowing floral installations: garden roses, peonies, orchids, trailing greenery. The palette moved from soft blush to deep magenta. The centerpieces were layered and abundant. Tall tapered candles in glass cylinders caught the light from the chandeliers above. Rose gold charger plates, blush napkins folded with a single white orchid, and custom menus by Creaciones Ana completed each place setting.
The wedding cake by Gabriel Diaz was its own event: a sleek white multi-tier cake accented with cascading orchids in purple and pink, set against a floral installation that could have been the backdrop of a magazine editorial.
Once the reception began, I got to see the other side of the story: the community that loves and surrounds this couple. The toasts confirmed how special and central Kamila and Brian are to the people in that room, ranging from hilarious to heartbreaking in the best way. Then came the dances, dinner, and finally the celebration.
Sin Pausa took the stage, followed by DJ PJ Porrata, and the room became exactly what you'd want it to be: joyful, loud, completely alive. The Koffee Cups Cafe coffee cart kept the energy going for those of us who had started the day early. The dance floor never emptied.
Three Sessions, One Story
I had watched these two find their location at Calico Basin because it reminded them of desert road trips they'd taken together. I had swooned over their beautiful family of four during a sunrise in the mountains of Colorado. I had watched Kamila handle every detail of a year-long planning process with the same combination of passion, humor, and grace she brings to everything she does.
By the time I was photographing them in those golden Condado Vanderbilt hallways, I felt so lucky to had been given a rare front-row seat to who they are, and the privilege of telling that story in full.
And in that privilege, fulfilling the very passion I live for.
