A Multicultural Celebration of Love at Hacienda Siesta Alegre
When I met Susana and Cory for their pre-wedding photos in Luquillo Beach, I could tell right away that their love had a quiet yet profound strength. It was one of those peaceful mornings, just the three of us and the sound of the ocean waking up, but their connection filled every frame.
That same peacefulness carried into their wedding day, even as it bloomed into a vibrant and emotional celebration at one of the most breathtaking haciendas you could capture as a destination wedding photographer in the Caribbean.
Multicultural Wedding: Chinese Tea Ceremony at Hacienda Siesta Alegre
From the very beginning, Susana and Cory planned a wedding that reflected not only their love story but also their cultural roots. With Susana's Chinese Panamanian background and Cory's North American traditions, this day was a beautiful fusion of rituals, languages, and moments that honored their families and heritage.
Before stepping into their Western ceremony, Susana and Cory began their wedding day with a traditional Chinese tea ceremony. Dressed in matching embroidered red attire, they knelt in front of their elders to offer tea, receiving blessings and heartfelt wishes in return. The tea ceremony is one of the most cherished wedding traditions in Chinese culture. It is an act of honoring one's family, welcoming the couple into their new roles, and asking for the wisdom of previous generations.
There was something incredibly special about witnessing this moment. It was quiet, sacred, and deeply respectful. And even though the languages and customs were new to some of the guests, you could feel how meaningful it was.
Destination Wedding Photographer in the Caribbean: Western Ceremony
After the tea ceremony, it was time to get ready for the Western part of the celebration. As I moved through the hacienda, I captured Cory adjusting his suit and Susana stepping into her Enzoani wedding dress. Her bouquet, a lush and elegant mix of orchids and soft pink roses, tied together the tropical setting with her personal style. Everything felt intimate, joyful, and grounded.
Their ceremony took place outdoors at Hacienda Siesta Alegre, set against a backdrop of mountain views and the hacienda's signature rustic charm.
The floral arch was full of texture and color, a perfect match for the natural surroundings. As guests took their seats, flower girls in blush-pink dresses strolled down the aisle, scattering petals with quiet focus.
When Susana walked in, all eyes were on her. The look Cory gave her said everything.
Just as the ceremony ended, the sound of drums echoed across the gardens. A vibrant red and gold Chinese dragon began dancing through the pathway, surprising guests and adding a burst of energy to the transition from ceremony to celebration.
More than entertainment, it was a powerful and symbolic way to invite good luck and prosperity into their shared life.
Portraits in full bloom: Tropical Hacienda Photos
After the formalities, we walked together through the lush paths of the hacienda for their newlywed portraits. Just as we made our way to the horse stables, the bougainvillea vines greeted us in full bloom. The colors were electric. Pink and magenta petals surrounded us, turning the garden into a living painting.
I always say that the light at Hacienda Siesta Alegre has an exceptional quality. That day, it gave us a golden glow that wrapped around Susana and Cory as they held each other among the flowers. It felt effortless. Just like them.
Dancing into the night in Hacienda Siesta Alegre, Puerto Rico
As the sun set over the mountains, string lights began to twinkle over the courtyard. The reception space glowed with warmth. Susana changed into a white fringe dress that swayed with every beat of the music, and the couple kicked off their reception with a salsa first dance that had the entire crowd clapping along. It was playful, confident, and full of joy.
One of the things I admired most was the meticulous attention to detail that went into every aspect of this wedding. Cory and Susana did not have a planner. They organized everything themselves, blending traditions and managing all the moving parts with grace and care. Their kindness set the tone for the entire day.
As their photographer, I was there to guide and support them when needed; however, most of the time, I stood back and captured the way they held space for each other and for everyone around them.
This is what it means to document weddings as a destination wedding photographer in the Caribbean. It's not just about the setting, the weather, or the flowers. It is about the people. Their stories. Their cultures. Their joy.
And this one was unforgettable.
