An Intimate Destination Wedding at the Fairmont El San Juan Hotel

There was something really special about Courtney and Khym's micro wedding. I felt it the moment I stepped into Courtney's suite at the Fairmont El San Juan Hotel. Everything was calm, intentional, and filled with love.

They chose Puerto Rico as their destination, as it offered the perfect blend of Caribbean beauty and world-class hospitality.

Their destination wedding in Puerto Rico was proof that less can absolutely be more.

With just their closest family and friends around, every laugh, every tear, and every vow felt magnified in the best possible way.

Getting Ready for Forever

My day with Courtney and Khym began at Casa del Mar Oceanside Villa, located at the Fairmont El San Juan Hotel.

Both Courtney's getting ready and the wedding reception would take place at the location, so it was a busy morning, with lots of vendor traffic around the property.

However, Courtney's room was quiet and peaceful. Courtney's details were minimal and elegant. I started my day with her shoes, bouquet, and delicate jewelry, after which I moved on to Courtney and her relationships.

One of my favorite moments was letting her take a quiet breath by the window with her baby girl before heading out for the ceremony. She looked so serene, yet you could feel the excitement bubbling underneath.

Meanwhile, Khym got ready in a different part of the hotel and met me right before the ceremony for portraits near the iconic banyan tree. He's not big on photos, but I am glad he let me insist on getting some captures for him, as he looked incredibly sharp.

As the ceremony time got closer, suddenly, he got the biggest smile on his face, knowing what was waiting for him just around the corner.

A Wedding Ceremony Under the Banyan Tree at the Fairmont El San Juan Hotel

The Banyan Tree at the Fairmont El San Juan Hotel is one of the most iconic and peaceful wedding spots in Isla Verde.

Its massive roots hold stories from generations before us, and that made the perfect backdrop for Courtney and Khym's vows.

As the sun filtered through the trees, Courtney walked down the aisle glowing. Her joy was contagious. Guests wiped tears, grinned ear to ear, and leaned into each moment as the couple exchanged heartfelt promises.

Their ceremony was short and sweet, with the kind of vows that leave a lump in your throat and a smile on your face.

After the ceremony, we took a few family portraits in the shade. The pace of the day was relaxed, which allowed us to be fully present and never rushed.

After that, I took the newlyweds around the hotel grounds just before sunset for their portraits.

A Candlelit Reception at Casa del Mar Oceanside Villa

Back at Casa del Mar Oceanside Villa, Courtney and Khym welcomed their guests into one of the most romantic spaces at the Fairmont.

Tucked at the edge of the resort, this private villa offers a rare kind of peace and intimacy, precisely what you want for a small destination wedding in Puerto Rico.

I had done many weddings at the Fairmont El San Juan Hotel, but never one in this gorgeous villa.

Their reception space was dressed in soft whites and gold. Elegant but cozy. Baby's breath, roses, and flickering candles filled the tables.

Dinner was served on the terrace, surrounded by tropical greenery. String lights twinkled as the night settled in.

I mainly stayed in the background, documenting quiet hugs, champagne toast, and all the stolen glances between Courtney and Khym.

They ended the evening dancing under the stars, wrapped in each other's arms. No grand finale is needed. The night itself was the celebration.

Planning a Destination Wedding in Puerto Rico

Weddings like Courtney and Khym's are a beautiful reminder that when you strip away the extras and focus on the people, the place, and the promise, something truly magical happens.

Whether you're planning a whole weekend of events or an intimate destination wedding, Puerto Rico is a fantastic choice. From beach wedding venues in Isla Verde to rainforest retreats and city celebrations, it offers something for every kind of couple.

If you're dreaming of a Caribbean destination wedding in Puerto Rico and want a laid-back photographer who blends into the celebration while capturing all the real moments, I'd love to be there for you.

Courtney & Khym: thank you for letting me into such a wonderful, loving, and intimate celebration. Every portion of the day, I felt surrounded by love and kindness, and I'm just so glad your day turned out to be straight out of a fairytale!

Cami
