I first met this couple during their trip to Puerto Rico for an underwater engagement session. We spent an afternoon jumping into a cold spring, timing our breath, and laughing our way through it. That trust carried beautifully into their laid-back beach wedding at Fusion Beach Villas in Isabela.

Wedding day at Fusion Beach Villas, Isabela

Fusion Beach Villas is a boutique waterfront property between Shacks and Jobos. The coastline here is sandy and a bit wild which makes it perfect for portraits. The terrace works so well for small wedding ceremonies and micro wedding receptions, and there is a natural path through the greenery that leads straight to the beach. It is also home to Fusion Floral Art, one of my favorite floral teams in Puerto Rico.

I started the day in the getting-ready room while hair and makeup wrapped up. I photographed the details, then stepped out to the balcony with the groom for a few relaxed portraits in the warm light. Downstairs, the terrace tables were already styled in tropical greens with gold accents and glassware. Raspberry tones tied everything together with the bouquet upstairs made of proteas, eucalyptus, and orchids.

The ceremony space sat by a giant dune with the ocean just beyond it. Waves crashed, the air sparkled in the late afternoon sun, and the setting needed almost nothing else. It felt like Puerto Rico in its purest form.

Traditions and little moments

They read vows that spoke about the sea and adventure. The rings were passed for blessings so every guest was part of the moment. There was no formal reception timeline, just toasts that came from the heart before dinner. While we waited, they pinned Puerto Rican capias on each guest as a keepsake of gratitude.

Instead of a sweetheart table, they sat family-style with everyone. It was simple, warm, and exactly right for a small beach wedding in Puerto Rico.

Such a lovely, perfect day.
