As an Old San Juan wedding photographer who has spent years walking these cobblestone streets with couples, I can say with confidence that Caroline and Colin's wedding day at Museo Casa Blanca is one of the most complete days I have ever documented.

Caroline and Colin welcomed guests from across the United States and beyond, with loved ones traveling from as far as Australia and the United Kingdom to celebrate with them in Puerto Rico. As hosts, that meant both the design and the guest experience mattered deeply to them.

Anna, Caroline's mother, actually found me first: before there was a venue booked or a planner in place, through photos I had taken years earlier inside the San Juan Cathedral. We started brainstorming and I helped her walk in the correct direction and soon enough, she'd have a wedding planner, a venue, and a plan.

By the time Caroline and Colin's wedding day arrived, that early spark had grown into a full celebration spanning three of Old San Juan's most beautiful wedding locations.

Getting Ready at Palacio Provincial

The day started at Palacio Provincial, where Caroline and Colin got ready in separate rooms with their families close by. I always begin with the quiet details first, the dress, the veil, the rings, the invitation suite, before the room fills with motion. Caroline's gown from Jenny Yoo hung near a window with soft, filtered light, and her bouquet of white roses and blush orchids from Lorraine's Flowers sat waiting nearby.

One of my favorite parts of any Old San Juan wedding day is the first look, and Caroline's was with her father rather than with Colin. We kept that moment private and let it breathe, and it set an emotional tone that carried through the rest of the day.

If you are planning a wedding at Palacio Provincial or anywhere in Old San Juan, one piece of advice I give every couple is to think carefully about ceremony timing.

Old San Juan afternoons run very hot, and scheduling your ceremony for later in the day, closer to golden hour, keeps everyone more comfortable and gives you far better light for photos.

A Catholic Ceremony at Catedral Basílica Menor de San Juan Bautista

From Palacio Provincial, our photo team made the short walk to Catedral Basílica Menor de San Juan Bautista, one of the oldest cathedrals in the Western Hemisphere and, without question, one of the most photogenic ceremony spaces I have ever worked in. The vaulted ceilings, the gold altar, the light pouring through the windows onto the black and white checkered floor, all of it makes for a ceremony that feels both grand and deeply intimate at once.

Caroline and Colin had a full Catholic ceremony here, and I made sure to capture both the formal moments at the altar and the quieter ones along the aisle, including a joyful dip as they exited as husband and wife for the first time. The Cathedral sits an easy walk from several other beloved Old San Juan landmarks, including Hotel El Convento, which makes it a wonderful anchor point if you are mapping out a wedding day here.

Portraits and Wedding Reception at Museo Casa Blanca

From the Ceremony, the newlyweds and guests took a car ride, but we took a healthy upward trek to our final stop of the day. Museo Casa Blanca is, in my opinion, one of the most beautiful historic wedding venues in Old San Juan, and Caroline and Colin used every inch of it. We started with a decor and ambient pass through the space before guests arrived, capturing the candlelit tablescapes, the brass and gold accents, and the greenery Lorraine's Flowers wove through the reception room.

Caroline is a bride who thinks about design the way an art director does, and it showed in every detail she chose. That kind of intentionality is a gift for a photographer. We moved through family formals quickly so we could get to the part of the afternoon I love most, romantic portraits of the couple through Casa Blanca's gardens, the bougainvilleas, the tropical garden paths, and the old stone courtyard with its arched exterior walls. Every corner of this property offers a completely different backdrop, which is part of why it photographs so beautifully for an Old San Juan wedding.

As the sun dropped, we caught the last of the natural light for portraits before moving into the reception itself, where a choreographed first dance included a lift that had the whole room cheering. The night closed with dancing and a sparkler exit that lit up the courtyard as Caroline and Colin made their way out as newlyweds.

Caroline and Colin's wedding was definitely an intense wedding, but an unforgettable one! Three historic locations, one incredible couple, and a design sensibility that made every frame feel intentional. I could not be more grateful they trusted me with it, and for the epic workout we got out of it.
