Queer Friendly Engagement Photos in Old San Juan

In 2025, I spent most of the summer traveling, but briefly returned home to meet with Cristina and Amy for their Old San Juan engagement photos. Within minutes, I could tell this was going to be the kind of session that feels like a deep exhale. They arrived with radiant smiles, bold style, and the type of warmth that makes getting to know each other feel effortless.
Old San Juan did what it always does best. Color everywhere. Texture in every corner. A rhythm that invites you to slow down and actually be in the moment.

Letting the city lead the way

Their outfits set the tone right away. Cristina’s floral dress brought movement, color, and joy. Amy’s crisp white shirt and earthy tones grounded everything beautifully. Together, they fit right into the pastel streets without blending into them.
We started near Plaza Colón and let the walk guide us. The first stretch of any engagement session matters. It’s where nerves melt away, conversation starts flowing, and small moments begin to surface naturally. A hand finding another. A shared laugh mid-sentence. That quiet pause before a kiss when the rest of the world fades out for a second.
Old San Juan is ideal for engagement photos because it offers plenty of space for all that. You’re not stuck in one spot. You move, explore, pause, and continue. It feels more like spending time together than doing a photoshoot.

Sunset engagement couple photography

As the light softened, we made our way toward the fortress walls. The breeze picked up, the city slowed down, and everything felt calmer. Sunset sessions here are rarely about the sky itself. They’re about how the light wraps around people, how the wind adds movement, and how the day gently comes to a close.
Standing there with Cristina and Amy, it was impossible not to think ahead to their wedding weekend. This engagement session felt less like a separate event and more like the beginning of something that would unfold over time. A chance to build trust, learn how they move together, and create space for them to be themselves.
I’m so looking forward to documenting their wedding celebrations this weekend. If this session was any indication, their days ahead will be full of warmth, intention, and a whole lot of joy.
xo,
Cami

A note to photographers about queer-friendly engagement photos

When couples tell me they’re looking for a queer-friendly engagement session, what they’re really asking for is simple. They want to feel comfortable and safe, and to show affection without second-guessing themselves in front of the camera or on the street around them.
Cristina and Amy moved through Old San Juan with ease. No hesitation. No shrinking. Just comfort in each other and in the space they were occupying. That kind of presence constantly changes the feel of a session. It stops being about posing and turns into documenting a connection as it naturally unfolds.
This is precisely what I aim for when photographing LGBTQ friendly engagement photos in Puerto Rico. Whether you find me searching for same sex engagement photos or simply looking for an engagement photographer who understands how vital ease and trust are, the experience should feel human first.
