A Small Intimate Wedding in Puerto Rico | Ailea & Misael

When love is celebrated with intention, every detail matters.

There are weddings you document, and there are weddings you live. Ailea and Misael's was the latter.

From the very first message I received from Ailea, I knew this wedding would be different. She wrote with a clarity that only someone who understands photography can have: she wanted the photos that she, as a bride, wouldn't be able to see. The tears of her guests. The stolen smiles. The moments that tell the real story of the day.

Ailea is a photographer too. Being chosen by a colleague on an island so full of talent is an honor I don't take lightly.

Planning a Small Intimate Wedding in Puerto Rico

When we started planning, Ailea and Misael had a clear vision: they wanted something simple, intimate, and above all, theirs. No traditional venues or rigid protocols. Their vision was an outdoor celebration, surrounded only by the people who truly matter.

The wedding went through several iterations during our conversations. At first, they considered a restaurant, then a friend's house. What never changed was the essence: a micro wedding with intention behind every decision.

In the end, they chose to celebrate at a private property in the mountains of Bayamón. The backyard became the perfect setting for an intimate ceremony with mountain views: exactly the kind of outdoor wedding many couples dream of, but few dare to execute.

An Intimate Ceremony with Mountain Views

On December 6th, 2025, I arrived at the property at 2:30 in the afternoon. The Puerto Rican sun was doing its thing, bathing everything in that golden light photographers love.

Ailea was getting ready in one of the rooms, surrounded by the most important women in her life. Misael waited in another area, nervous in the best way possible. The first look we planned gave them that moment alone before the ceremony; an intimate breath before sharing their vows in front of family and friends.

The ceremony was exactly what they wanted: personal, emotional, real. Just 48 guests were seated in white chairs on the lawn, with a floral arch framing the couple against the mountainous landscape.

And then, as the sun began to set and the string lights under the tent came alive, the celebration took on a life of its own. Laughter, hugs, chocolate chip cookies from Frescura instead of traditional cake (because that's who they are), and that energy that only exists when every person present was invited with intention.

Why Small Weddings Feel So Special

Every couple teaches me something. Ailea and Misael reminded me that the most memorable weddings aren't the biggest or most elaborate. They're the most authentic.

They made every decision based on a simple question: Is this us? And when the answer was no, they discarded it without a second thought. The result was a small, intimate wedding that felt exactly like them: warm, genuine, full of love.

Tips for Planning Your Intimate Wedding

If you're considering a micro wedding or small celebration, here's my advice as a photographer who has documented all kinds of weddings:

You don't need a traditional venue to have beautiful photos. A private property, a backyard with good light, a space that means something to you: that's enough. What makes a wedding special isn't the place; it's the intention behind the planning.

And if you have the option to do a first look before the ceremony, do it. That moment alone, before the noise and nerves of the ceremony, is pure gold.

Ailea and Misael: thank you for trusting me to document this day.

Thank you for making me feel like a guest. May every day of your marriage have the same energy, the same laughter, and the same tender love I witnessed on that sunny December day.

xo,
Cami
