There's a particular kind of quiet that settles over the Bastión de San Agustín in the hour before sunset. The garita stands watch over the bay, the stone underfoot is worn smooth by centuries, and for one golden hour, the whole scene can belong to just two people. That's exactly what Evan wanted for Morgan.

Why We Chose Bastión de San Agustín Over El Morro

Evan reached out months in advance, set on planning something private. He'd seen my work at El Morro and loved the setting, but the more we talked, the more it became clear that Morgan wanted something more intimate than the open lawns of the fort could offer. That's when I suggested the Bastión de San Agustín, a quieter stretch of the Old San Juan city walls just a few minutes' walk from El Morro, with the same sweeping views of the bay and none of the crowds.

The Proposal Setup by Home Glamp

Evan brought in Home Glamp to bring his vision to life, and she delivered. A circular arrangement of natural white roses framed a bohemian straw rug, with pillar candles scattered along the stone. Off to the side, a matching ice bucket held champagne, ready for the celebration, and a small loudspeaker played the song that meant something to the two of them as Evan got down on one knee.

The Moment She Said Yes

Morgan's reaction was everything you hope for in this line of work. Hands over her mouth, a few tears, and then that unmistakable, giddy laugh once the ring was on her finger. They toasted with champagne right there on the Bastión, wrapped in each other and in that view of the San Juan bay stretching out behind them.

Engagement Portraits at Castillo San Felipe del Morro

Once the celebration settled, we made the short walk over to Castillo San Felipe del Morro for engagement portraits. Morgan had gathered up a handful of the roses from the setup and tied them into a bouquet to bring home, and we used it as a prop as we wandered the fort's grass lawns and along its weathered walls. The light that evening was soft and a little moody, clouds rolling over the bay, and it gave the whole session a romantic, almost cinematic feel.
