Makenzie & Colten’s San Juan Destination Wedding: A Full-Circle Celebration of Love
Makenzie and Colten's San Juan destination wedding was a journey that came full circle. One year earlier, Colten proposed to Makenzie during a magical visit to Puerto Rico. They remember celebrating their new engagement by visiting El Morro, an iconic 16th-century fortress overlooking the vast expanse of the Atlantic Ocean.
Pre-Wedding Couples Photoshoot at El Morro Fortress
They began their wedding weekend just hours after their red-eye flight into Puerto Rico, with a pre-wedding photo session at El Morro. We revisited this busy location as the sun broke through the horizon, casting a warm glow on the historic walls.
However, this time, it was empty, only for us. The soft hues of pink and gold in the sky and the serene morning atmosphere set the perfect scene for the start of their wedding weekend. They effortlessly strolled through the grounds, sharing intimate smiles and light-hearted moments that reflected how their love has grown over the past year.
A Beautiful San Juan Destination Wedding
Fast-forward to the next day, when they were married at Hotel El Convento—an intimate celebration with close friends and family. Makenzie and Colten let the day unfold organically with an easy-going and relaxed approach.
The hotel's beautiful architecture was a picturesque backdrop for the bridal party's portraits. Makenzie looked stunning in her lace gown, which complemented the elegant yet minimal décor of the wedding.
San Juan Destination Wedding Ceremony at Plazuela de la Rogativa
The ceremony occurred at Plazuela La Rogativa, a quaint plaza in the heart of Old San Juan. Overlooking the bay's tranquil waters was the perfect setting for their vows. As Makenzie descended the aisle, a wave of emotion swept through the guests. The energy in the air was electric, with tears of joy, smiles, and laughter. Colten, dressed in a light linen suit, couldn't take his eyes off her.
An uninvited guest
But as they sealed their vows with a kiss, tropical summer weather added a dramatic touch to the day. A sudden storm rolled in, drenching everyone in attendance. Instead of letting it dampen their spirits, Makenzie and Colten embraced the rain with open hearts and smiles. "I wouldn't have it any other way," Makenzie laughed, turning to Colten as they walked the cobblestone streets, hand in hand, soaking wet but filled with joy.
After the ceremony, the couple explored the charming streets of Old San Juan for their newlywed portraits. The soft rain only added to the magic, creating a romantic atmosphere as they leaned in for kisses and shared quiet moments under the colorful balconies.
San Juan Destination Wedding Venue: Hotel El Convento
As the sun set, they returned to El Convento, where the Martorell Ballroom was transformed into a vibrant yet elegant reception space.
Guests were welcomed with a refined setup, reflecting the couple's preference for a minimalistic yet timeless look. The painted, arched ceilings and the artisanal chandelier added to the ambiance as guests dined, danced, and celebrated the night away.
The evening ended with a spectacular sparkler exit, filling the air with cheers and light as Makenzie and Colten shared one last kiss before being whisked away.
Their wedding day was nothing short of extraordinary—a testament to their love, resilience, and ability to find beauty and joy in every moment, planned or unexpected. May their infectious joy, even in the midst of a sudden storm, be a reminder to all of us to cherish every moment.
