A Family Portrait Session to Remember in Alexandria, Virginia

Hello there! On my last trip to the DMV area in September 2022, I had the pleasure of meeting again with Anitha and Daniel, who I had photographed during their gorgeous 2020 elopement in Puerto Rico.

Our travel plans placed us in the same time and place, this time in Alexandria, Virginia, where they introduced me to their newest family member: their baby boy!

We had a wonderful morning capturing their family memories in the charming streets and harbor of Old Town Alexandria. The historic architecture, cobblestone streets, and beautiful buildings provided a lovely feel to the images. It felt like I was living another version of my life shooting Old San Juan photo sessions in slightly different weather!

My approach to photographing families with small children

As any toddler, Baby A was more interested in playtime and discovering the world than in taking portraits, so I made a pact with Anitha and Daniel to let him roam free for most of the photos as we played along and did some couples portraits. Little Mr. Intependent would join us when he felt like it or when he grew jealous of mom and dad hugging without him.

This photography approach works with toddlers and small kids: they will get frustrated and fussy when grown-ups constantly try to call their attention to that weird lady with the camera. I try to avoid negative feelings towards me because I lose them forever once that happens!

Family Portraits along the Alexandria Harbor in Virginia

As we made our way to the harbor, the family's energy shifted, and we captured some fun candid shots of them enjoying the view and each other's company. The dock provided a different feel to the images, with the boats, water, and calming sounds of the pier in the morning. The family was more relaxed here, and we captured some beautiful moments of them interacting with each other.

One of the highlights of the session was when we stopped at a park near the harbor, and the family's baby boy started giggling and playing with his parents. I captured some fantastic shots of the family's joy and love for each other, and I knew these images would be cherished memories for the family for years to come.

Working with Anitha and Daniel again was an absolute pleasure, and I loved seeing how their family had grown since their elopement in Puerto Rico. It's always an honor when clients trust me to capture their memories, and I'm grateful for the opportunity to create lasting images for them.

Old Town Alexandria provided a beautiful and unique backdrop for this family portrait session. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a charming and historical setting for their portraits. The combination of the streets and harbor created a timeless and beautiful feel to the images, and I'm thrilled with how the session turned out.

In conclusion, my family portrait session in Old Town Alexandria with Anitha, Daniel, and their baby boy was a beautiful and memorable experience. As a destination photographer, I always look for unique and charming locations to capture my clients' memories, and Old Town Alexandria did not disappoint.
