Katie and Matt’s Delightful Wedding Day at Old San Juan

Katie and Matt's wedding at Hotel El Convento, San Juan is the kind of event I call a "unicorn wedding"—where everything falls into place seamlessly, and every moment feels magical. The iconic location of Hotel El Convento in the heart of Old San Juan offers a unique blend of historic charm and sophisticated elegance, making it the perfect venue for couples dreaming of a romantic destination wedding in Puerto Rico.

This wedding was a testament to how intimate celebrations, paired with an extraordinary venue like Hotel El Convento San Juan, can create a meaningful experience for the couple and their loved ones.

The hotel's Spanish Colonial architecture, lush courtyards, and enchanting atmosphere set the tone for Katie and Matt’s special day.

Why Hotel El Convento San Juan is a Dream Wedding Venue

Choosing the right venue is a significant decision when planning a destination wedding. Hotel El Convento San Juan stands out as a top choice for several reasons:

  1. Historical and Cultural Significance
Located in a former Carmelite convent dating back to 1651, the hotel preserves its historic character while providing modern luxuries. The preserved architecture, stained glass windows, and mosaic tiles add a layer of history and charm that make it one of the most beautiful and unique wedding venues in Puerto Rico.
  2. Stunning Courtyards and Event Spaces
The hotel’s lush central courtyard, El Patio del Níspero, serves as a serene backdrop for ceremonies and portraits, with its tropical greenery and elegant stonework. For receptions, the Salón Campeche ballroom, adorned with crystal chandeliers and French doors, is ideal for creating a grand yet intimate atmosphere.
  3. Ideal Location for Old San Juan Wedding Photography
Beyond the hotel itself, the surrounding Old San Juan neighborhood offers a myriad of photo opportunities. With its colorful colonial buildings, cobblestone streets, and views of the Atlantic Ocean, this area provides an enchanting environment for capturing post-ceremony portraits.

Katie and Matt’s Wedding Day at Hotel El Convento San Juan

My day began at Katie's suite, where she was surrounded by her closest family members. The atmosphere was relaxed and joyful, allowing for some beautiful candid moments. Katie’s romantic look featured a lace gown complemented by delicate garden roses in her hair. Her soft smile and serene demeanor set the tone for the rest of the day.

Matt, on the other hand, opted for a more hands-off approach to his pre-wedding preparations. I met him downstairs at El Patio del Níspero—the hotel’s picturesque interior courtyard—where we greeted guests as we awaited the ceremony's start. When Katie made her entrance, Matt’s face lit up, radiating pure love and excitement.

Post-Ceremony Portraits: Strolling Through Old San Juan

After the couple exchanged their vows beneath the shade of the courtyard's níspero tree, we took a brief respite indoors, capturing the minimalist décor and intimate setup of the reception space. Then, we set off to explore the charming streets of Old San Juan. Katie and Matt wandered hand-in-hand down the cobblestone paths, pausing at picturesque spots that showcased the vibrant hues and colonial architecture unique to the area.

These post-ceremony portraits encapsulated the laid-back yet refined nature of the day. Their joy was palpable as they shared laughs, exchanged whispered words, and enjoyed a moment of solitude amidst the vibrant streets. Each photo tells the story of a couple deeply in love, surrounded by a city that mirrors their timeless elegance.

A Reception to Remember

Back at Hotel El Convento San Juan, the guests eagerly awaited the couple’s return to the ballroom for a night of celebration. Toasts were made, and heartfelt speeches brought laughter and tears. The couple shared a beautiful first dance, and before my coverage ended, I managed to capture a few lively moments on the dance floor.

Katie and Matt’s wedding at Hotel El Convento San Juan was truly one for the books. Their day was filled with love, joy, and the kind of effortless beauty that only comes from being deeply present and connected. As I left the venue that evening, I couldn’t help but feel grateful for the opportunity to witness and capture such a significant milestone in their lives.

Hotel El Convento San Juan is more than just a wedding venue—it's a place where history, romance, and celebration intertwine, creating unforgettable experiences for couples and their guests.

Gorgeous Wedding Photos at El Convento

We loved our photos!! We booked Camille from afar and didn’t have the opportunity to meet her before the wedding. Leading up to the wedding Camille was very responsive, shared a lot of tips, and was super flexible. At the day of the wedding she showed up early, stayed late, was very easy going, and helped us find locations to capture the moment perfectly. She even sent the pictures within a few days! Camille is wonderful! You will not be disappointed.
