Alyssia & Devin’s Puerto Rican Wedding at Old San Juan

Those of you who are readers of my wedding blog must know by now that it's tough for me to define what a perfect wedding is; the same goes for the perfect Puerto Rican Wedding. I fall in love with each couple, and then their wedding becomes one of my favorites. I'm blessed with being hired with so many amazing couples that the list of my favorite weddings is ever-growing. One of my favorites is Alyssia & Devin's Puerto Rican wedding at -also my favorite city- Old San Juan.

Wedding Planning Trip to Puerto Rico

I didn't have that much communication with Alyssia and Devin before their wedding day. Still, I did get to meet Alyssia during a wedding planning visit to Puerto Rico. During this time, she and her family were scouting for wedding venues in Puerto Rico, and meeting with Puerto Rican wedding vendors, including me! Immediately, she struck me as a sweet, laid back bride, and that was an accurate impression, working with her on her day-of was a delight!

Getting Ready at Hotel El Convento

My day with them started at the iconic Hotel El Convento in Old San Juan. The couple was staying in separate rooms of the same hotel, and within walking distance to the Ceremony venue. In cases like this, my photography timeline starts with the groom since they usually have to be at the church earlier.

Devin was almost ready when I got to his suite. I started photographing the accessories, and when he was partially dressed, I turned my attention towards him as his tailor and his parents helped him finish. Then I took him out to the hallways (the colonial-style rooms in El Convento are rather dark) and had the coolest portrait session for him. After that, I arrived at Alyssia's suite. She was almost done with her hair and make-up, she was beautiful, and her smile lit the room.

Puerto Rican Wedding Ceremony at Old San Juan Cathedral

After Alyssia's bridal portraits, I went down across the street for the ceremony at the iconic Old San Juan Cathedral. The service was beautiful, from the minute Alyssia walked down the aisle, the lovebirds wouldn't take their eyes off each other. Seeing them interact together for the first time, I could see they were not only a beautiful couple but incredibly smitten and sweet with each other.

When the ceremony was finished, we did the family and group formals on the church. We then walked out for one of my favorite newlywed portrait sessions in Old San Juan. They were so good in front of the camera (the trick is to kind of ignore my existence), we were able to finish the photos quickly.

Destination Wedding Reception at Salon Campeche, Hotel El Convento

Inside the glorious air-conditioned Salon Campeche, Luciano Designer was waiting for us with the quintessential tropical wedding decor. We still had a few minutes left before the reception started, so we had a second portrait set indoors.

Eventually, guests came in, the protocol started, and we danced the night away with this beautiful, blended family. Everyone was so happy, kind, and beautiful; I'm so grateful for being trusted to witness and capture their wedding day memories. Enjoy this set!
