Newlywed Sunset Session at Old San Juan
After their gorgeous wedding at Vieques' W Retreat & Spa Resort, I met with Carmela & Phillip again at Old San Juan for their Puerto Rico honeymoon photos. They had never been to the old city before, so besides doing the photographs, I showed them around.
We were literally under hurricane watch that day, but knowing how uncertain tropical weather is during the hurricane season. Since they had just traveled 3 hours from Vieques to be there for the session, I decided not to cancel our appointment yet. Hours before the meeting, the alerts downgraded to tropical storm watch, and the skies were showing such a beautiful cloudscape. It ended up being a perfect session day!
We started off at the end of Paseo la Princesa. We walked back from Fortaleza Street until we reached El Morro just in time for one of the most beautiful sunsets I'd had in a session.
Wedding and Puerto Rico Honeymoon Photos during Hurricane Season
Hurricane season stretches from June 1 to November 30, which also marks the wet season in Puerto Rico. Tropical weather, in general, is very unpredictable, making hurricanes -and rain in general- a common worry for elopement and destination wedding clients. Even though the chances of rain are high during this particular season, I always advise foreign clients not to make permanent decisions under temporary conditions. Vacation time is highly valuable and expensive, and I will try my best to not make you lose a scheduled session.
Puerto Rico is located in a particular spot in the Caribbean where storms usually arrive in underdeveloped conditions, unlike Mexico or the south of the continental United States. As in any other place of the World, outdoor weddings should have a backup indoor-plan, and all the hotels and private venues will help you with that Plan B.
I hope you enjoyed this one!
