When Ian reached out to me about a surprise engagement session in Puerto Rico, I knew right away it would be special. He had just proposed to Kelsey a few days earlier during their vacation on the island.

Instead of planning an elaborate setup, Ian chose to pop the question in the moment, whenever it felt right during their adventure together.

By the time we met up for their vacation beach photos at Loíza Beach, they were still glowing with the joy of the big yes.

A Surprise Engagement Session in Golden Hour

For their last evening in Puerto Rico, we made our way to Playa Aviones, one of my favorite spots for vacation beach photos and pre wedding photoshoots at the beach.

The sun filtered softly through the palm trees as Ian and Kelsey walked barefoot through the sand, holding hands, smiling the entire way.

They looked perfectly at home in the warm tones of the Caribbean coast. Kelsey wore a simple white dress, Ian kept it casual in a linen shirt and jeans. There was something so effortless about the way they moved.

Running along the shore, playing in the waves, and wrapping into each other like nothing else in the world mattered.

It was the kind of setting that makes beach engagements feel like a dream come to life.

Natural Chemistry, No Poses Needed

My favorite sessions are the ones where I barely have to pose anything. Most times, I aim to just direct general instructions of flow, lighting and movement, and let love, emotion, and magic to take the lead.

This was exactly one of those. From the way Ian scooped her up into his arms to how Kelsey gently leaned into him, everything felt genuine. Their laughter mixed with the sound of the surf as they splashed in the water, not caring about wet clothes or windblown hair. They were just living the moment.

They trusted me to follow along as it unfolded. That kind of freedom always shows in the gallery. These two brought the warmth and joy I hope for every time I photograph beach pre wedding photos.

Vacation Beach Photos: A Sweet Ending and a New Beginning

This was more than just an engagement session. It marked the closing of their trip and the very beginning of their next chapter. Ian and Kelsey flew back home with sandy feet, sun-kissed skin, and a set of photos that captured all the love and celebration of this beautiful time in their lives.
