Surprise Beach Picnic Proposal at La Concha Resort, Puerto Rico
Summer of '26 will always be remembered by the whirlwind of epic love stores I photographed away from home. And tucked between all of those, Tristan's surprise proposal to Gabby, my one and only local project that month.
Most couples I work with plan their surprise proposal for moths, I help them scout locations as they debate florals and additional experiences to celebrate the moment. This one, moved fast and decisive.
A family trip to Puerto Rico was the perfect excuse. Gabby's grandmother lives in the south of Puerto Rico, where she spent her childhood summers, and her whole family gathered for a visit this time. A few quiet hours just for them two, was the perfect opportunity for an intimate proposal where they could celebrate at a family dinner afterwards.
Choosing La Concha Resort for a Sunset Proposal
Gabby loves the beach at La Concha. With the help of her parents, Tristan drew up the plan to stay at this resort for a few days, and then sneak away for the proposal.
Condado's beaches, such as all beaches in Puerto Rico, are public by nature, and this particular stretch brings a mix of locals and tourists even in the early evening. Sunset is great for lighting and the beach also starts to empty as it starts to get dark. So this would be the ideal time for photographing at a crowded beach like Condado, second best only to sunrise.
The Sunset Beach Proposal
La Concha's team built a small private picnic on the sand, close to their property. A white picnic blanket, whote rose and greenery arrangements, torches, cancles, and throw pillows. I arrived as they were giving all the finishing touches, and after I got ready, I saw Tristan walking out to the beach.
He arrived wearing a sky blue linen shirt, hands in this pockets, doing his best to keep nerves at bay as he waited. Gabby took a while to come down, but when she appeared, it was all worth it. She walked up to him, they talked for a moment, and then he got down on one knee.
Champagne, Golden Hour, and a Walk Down the Beach
After the yes, La Concha had champagne waiting for them, I gave them a few minutes to rejoice together, rings in her hand, glasses raised, still catching their breath.
Then we moved in closer to the water, for a mini engagement photoshoot as the golden sun set over the horizon. A perfect way to end a beautiful day.

Planning Your Own Proposal at La Concha Resort
If you're considering a surprise proposal at La Concha Resort, sunset is worth requesting specifically, even if the resort's team tends to nudge different timeframes for their experiences.
Because the beach is public, early sunrise offer a bit more breathing room if privacy matters to you. La Concha's team can coordinate a full picnic setup with florals, a blanket, and torches, which made this proposal feel intentional without needing an outside florist or rental company.
I've had the privilege of capturing proposals inside La Concha before, including one in what's now Levant Restaurant, and each one has had its own completely different feel depending on the setting, the time of day, and the couple. If you're drawn to a beach setting elsewhere along the Condado coastline, Escambrón Beach is a more natural option worth considering.
