Offbeat Destination Wedding at Hacienda Siesta Alegre

When I met Kortney and Darin (separately) on their wedding day, I knew their wedding day would be enjoyable and spontaneous. My day started at Kortney's bridal suite, where she and a vast group of gorgeous and energetic girls were getting ready with her. I loved the green and burgundy wedding details: the shoes, bouquet, bridesmaid dresses... even nature at the Hacienda matched that day!

While the girls finished getting ready, I went up to Darin and his groomsmen. They were ready and rocked their burgundy and blue suits. We made a few fun portraits of them, and also of Darin alone. Then I went back to Kortney's bridal portraits before we went upstairs to the ceremony.

Non-Traditional Wedding Ceremony at Hacienda Siesta Alegre

At the ceremony aisle, we were greeted by a cold beer station, which if you ask me, is a fantastic way to keep guests cool and entertained while they wait for the event to start. At the beginning of the ceremony, the bride and groom took a minute to raise their beer bottles up in the air, cheering for their new marriage. A funny thing that happened during the ceremony, Kortney was so overcome by happiness that she didn't notice until a few minutes into the ceremony that her fiance had shaved his full-grown beard for the wedding day. When she did, we all cracked up in laughter.

After the readings and rituals were done, the newlyweds and I moved to the lawn area for formal and group portraits with their loved ones, and afterward, we spent 15 minutes for newlywed photos around the hacienda. I loved this portrait set because it was so spontaneous.

A thing about spontaneous portraits: by definition, they cannot be staged. So if you want spontaneity to show in your wedding portraits, my best recommendation would be to relax, trust your photographer, and not care about being goofy, sexy, awkward in front of the camera. I encourage all couples to be themselves, and nothing is too cheesy or awkward for the camera.

After their portraits were done, we continued to the reception, which was beautifully decorated, and quite entertaining. Their guests really did know how to party. And they danced all night long. Including the photographer. And then we finished the night off with surprise fireworks. Epic, right?

xo,
