Love in Motion through Old San Juan and El Escambrón Beach
Karla and Mike had just moved to Puerto Rico when they decided to officially begin their new chapter together. Instead of waiting for a big wedding, they wanted something simple and true to the life they were building here, just the two of them, the ocean breeze, and a few tender words exchanged at sunset. When they reached out looking for destination elopement photographers, I immediately knew this would be one of those sweet afternoons that flow effortlessly.
We met on a bright August afternoon in Old San Juan. The city was quiet, bathed in warm light, and the summer air carried the faint scent of sea salt. They were both incredibly kind, easygoing, and so loving toward each other. It felt like photographing two best friends who happened to be head over heels in love.
Wandering Through Old San Juan
Our afternoon started near Castillo San Cristóbal, where the ocean meets the city walls. From there, we wandered through cobblestone streets and pastel-colored alleys, stopping wherever the light invited us. I love how Old San Juan transforms with every corner: vibrant doors, hidden courtyards, and that perfect Caribbean glow that softens everything it touches.
Karla looked stunning in her lace gown, and Mike couldn’t take his eyes off her. Every few minutes we would pause for a kiss, a laugh, or a moment to breathe it all in. At one point, a cat decided to tag along, and a small black bird swooped right through one of their kisses. It is those unexpected little guests that make each elopement so unique.
As we walked, I kept an eye on the time to make sure we would reach the water before sunset. Their laughter echoed between the pastel walls, and I remember thinking how lucky I am to document stories like theirs, filled with love, calm, and a sense of adventure.
An Intimate Ceremony at El Escambrón Beach
From Old San Juan, we made our way to El Escambrón Beach for their ceremony. It is one of my favorite locations for elopements, close to the city but still full of open sky and ocean views. The light was soft, golden, and calm, and the waves felt like they were quietly keeping rhythm with their vows.
Their officiant, Tim Blackford from Peace Love Weddings, led a short and beautiful legal ceremony. I stepped back as they held hands and exchanged words that were just for them. In those moments, you can feel everything slow down. It is the reason I love photographing elopements in Puerto Rico. It is about connection, presence, and the promise of something new.
After the ceremony, we took a few portraits by the palms and along the rocks, letting the sea breeze tangle her veil while the light slowly faded behind them. It was simple, heartfelt, and entirely theirs.
Why I Love Photographing Destination Elopements in Puerto Rico
Elopements like Karla and Mike’s remind me that love does not need to be grand to be meaningful. Puerto Rico offers so many spaces where intimacy and beauty come naturally: Old San Juan with its historic charm, and beaches like El Escambrón that feel both accessible and wild at once.
For couples like them who have recently made Puerto Rico home, these moments feel especially tender. There is something powerful about starting a new chapter surrounded by the colors, sounds, and warmth of this island. If you are looking for destination elopement photographers to capture a day that feels effortless and true to who you are, know that Puerto Rico is one of the most magical backdrops to do it.
