A Surprise Lesbian Proposal at Sunset in Puerto Rico — Katherine & Liza
If you've been dreaming of a lesbian proposal that feels intimate, romantic, and completely your own, this one is for you.
Katherine reached out to me months before her trip to Puerto Rico with one goal: to propose to her girlfriend Liza in a way she would never forget. What unfolded at Playa Piñones on a breezy May evening was exactly that, for them but also for me!
Planning a Same-Sex Beach Proposal in Puerto Rico
Katherine found me through Google while researching proposal photographers in Puerto Rico, and from our very first conversation, her vision was clear. She wanted something simple and elegant, somewhere close to nature, away from the crowds, with the ocean as a backdrop.
After considering a sunset sailboat proposal and a beach setup, she chose the beach, and I could not have been happier with that decision.
We coordinated every detail together over the weeks leading up to the shoot. Katherine worked with La Floreta by Isa to create a stunning white floral crescent arrangement on the sand, complete with candles and rose petals.
I scouted the spot at Playa Piñones, just outside San Juan, and coordinated with Isa on the exact placement based on the scenery and the direction of the light.
One of the things I love most about proposal photography is being part of the planning in a way that actually serves the couple.
For same-sex proposals in Puerto Rico, the beach gives you so much: golden sand, the sound of waves, palm trees, and that north coast light that turns everything warm and soft right before sunset. It also gives a sense of intimacy that other beaches closer to San Juan can't.
The Floral Setup at Playa Piñones
Isa arrived early to set up the arrangement before Katherine and Liza got to the beach. The setup was exactly what Katherine had envisioned: a crescent of white roses and greenery lining the sand, candles tucked in at the base, and rose petals scattered across the ground inside the arch.
Simple, intentional, and breathtaking against that open sky.
I was already in position, tucked discreetly nearby, camera ready, when Katherine led Liza down to the beach.
They Said Yes: A Double Proposal
The proposal location and appearance would be a surprise, but they had already planned a double proposal with a ring for each. Liza walked toward the setup not fully understanding what she was looking at, and then it clicked.
The moment Katherine got down on one knee, everything shifted. You can see it in the photos: the way Liza's hands went to her face, the way she laughed and cried at the same time, the way Katherine looked up at her like they had both been ready for this moment for a long time.
After Liza's ring went on, we had a moment of quiet while Katherine handed her ring box, and Liza prepared her proposal. Then they celebrated, we had the whole beach and the rest of that golden hour to ourselves.
We walked along the reef, danced in the wet sand, chased the last light as it dropped behind the clouds. Katherine and Liza were naturals in front of the camera, and honestly, it felt less like a photoshoot and more like celebrating with two people who were genuinely over the moon. Just like I was.
