As a wedding photographer based in Puerto Rico, I've had the privilege of documenting love stories in some of the most beautiful places on earth. But Danielle and Antonio's Old San Juan Cathedral wedding holds a very special place in my heart.

Danielle and Antonio's wedding party arrived dressed to match the setting. The groomsmen wore matching beige suits with forest green ties, and the bridesmaids wore flowing forest green satin gowns. White florals, lush foliage, and golden accents completed the look, all of it harmonizing with the cathedral's centuries-old interior without competing with it.

The ceremony itself was one of those that holds the room completely still. Guests filled the wooden pews. The flower girl made her way down the aisle ahead of the bridesmaids. And when Antonio turned to watch Danielle walk toward him, flanked by her father, the expression on his face said everything.

Getting Ready at Hotel El Convento

Danielle and her bridesmaids got ready inside one of Hotel El Convento's beautifully appointed suites. The rooms at El Convento have a quiet grandeur to them: dark wood shutters, high ceilings, antique furnishings, and just enough natural light streaming in to make every getting-ready moment feel luminous.

Danielle wore a sleek white satin gown with a cowl neckline and a cathedral-length veil trimmed in delicate lace. The combination was stunning in person and even more so against the warm ochre walls and terracotta floors of the hotel's colonnaded hallways, where we did her bridal portraits before heading to the church.

Antonio and his groomsmen also prepared at the hotel, and there was a lot of laughter in those rooms. The kind that only happens when a group of people genuinely love each other and are about to watch one of their own get married.

The father-daughter first look happened in El Convento's open-air corridor, and it was one of those moments I live for as a photographer. No prompting needed. He saw her, and that was it.

Old San Juan Wedding Photography: Portraits in the Historic Streets

After the ceremony, as the afternoon light turned golden over the rooftops of Old San Juan, Danielle and Antonio slipped away for their newlywed portraits. We wandered through the cobblestone streets surrounding the cathedral and Hotel El Convento, stopping along the blue-walled alley just a few steps from the hotel, pausing beneath the old ceiba tree, leaning against the studded wooden doors that have been standing since the colonial era.

Old San Juan is one of those places where you could point a camera in almost any direction and find something beautiful. But it becomes something else entirely when you have two people in love walking through it on their wedding day.

The Reception at Hotel El Convento

The reception at Hotel El Convento was held in the hotel's grand ballroom, and the design team transformed it into something that felt like a dream.

Tall white floral arrangements with roses, hydrangeas, and eucalyptus sat on gold geometric stands above tables dressed in white linen and gold-rimmed charger plates. A mirrored console table ran through the center of the room, covered in white blooms and pillar candles. Framed family photos were tucked among the florals as a nod to the generations that came before.

Danielle and Antonio's grand entrance was the kind that fills a room instantly. Sparklers lit the doorway as they walked in, and the energy never let up from there.

First dances, toasts, father-daughter dances, a bouquet toss that had the whole floor screaming. By the time the dessert table came out, complete with individual tarts and petit fours, nobody wanted the night to end.
